Participants: Paul Caraher, Tom Mahood
General search area:
From Quail Springs Picnic Area, westerly to Lang Canyon, then to westerly slopes of Lang Canyon and cell phone coverage zone near Lang Mine.
Rationale for searching this area:
We had failed to completely search the Lang Mine cell phone coverage area during JT12, and this trip filled in the remainder, as well as a search of the remaining westerly slope of Lang Canyon.
Impressions of area and findings:
Similar to JT12, although the west slope of Lang Canyon descent was very rugged and treacherous via the routes we chose. It was very good to be at the canyon bottom again.
Coverage level:
Completed to my satisfaction. I won’t be going back there.
Comments:
One curious thing….Half way down a very nasty chute on the west slope of Lang Canyon, I came to a small, flat sandy area in between the dry waterfalls. There was a set of footprints heading down that couldn’t have been more than a week old. What someone was doing in such an obscure, out of the way area is beyond me. The prints were none of ours. There are crazier people out there than us.
